LAGOS, Nigeria (AA) – Nigeria’s military said on Wednesday that a Boko Haram ambush in northeast Borno state led to an hours-long gun battle, leaving two soldiers and several militants dead.
The Tuesday attack came barely four days after militants stormed an army position at Rann in the Kala Balge local government area of Borno state.
Saturday’s encounter resulted in the death of at least 16 militants and two soldiers, according to the army.
Army Spokesperson Sani Usman, Tuesday’s attack occurred at Kangarwa in northern Borno - an axis believed to be a stronghold of the Boko Haram insurgents.
The army said the ambush was "successfully repelled" with the help of the Nigerian Air Force and their Chadian counterparts who deployed fighter jets.
