Crash occurs during landing at northwestern Kaduna state

MAIDUGURI, Nigeria (AA) - A Nigerian military plane crashed on Friday in the northwestern Kaduna State, killing eight principal army officers on board, according to local media.

The air force plane crashed on the Kaduna Airport runway at about 6 p.m., the report said.

Air Commodore Edward Gabkwet, the spokesman of the Nigerian Air Force, in a tweet confirmed the incident but did not give details about the casualties.

"An air crash involving a @NigAirForce aircraft occurred this evening near the Kaduna International Airport," he announced.

He said the immediate cause of the crash has not yet been ascertained.

It was the third air force plane crash in three months.
