ADDIS ABABA, Ethiopia (AA) - The number of active COVID-19 cases in Africa reached 923,044, according to a Friday update of the Africa Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
The number of cases recorded so far across the continent has risen to more than 7.18 million, the update said, adding over 6.25 million patients have recovered.
The death toll from COVID-19 in Africa has reached 181,098.
Of the five geographic regions in the continent, Southern Africa is shown to be the worst hit with 3.4 million cases, followed by North Africa that recorded 2.1 million cases. East Africa has 851,400 cases, West Africa 559,400 cases, while Central Africa has reported 211,100 cases.
The continent has administered 73.8 million out of 113.8 million vaccines supplied.
In Africa, a continent of 1.3 billion people, less than 2% of the population has so far received vaccines against the virus.
