The unemployment rate in the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) area in March remained unchanged for the sixth consecutive month at 4.9%, according to data released on Thursday.
In March, 15 OECD countries recorded a rate below or equal to 5.0%, including Germany, Japan, Mexico, and the United States, the Paris-based group said.
The number of unemployed in the OECD rose to 34.2 million in March from 33.9 million in February, driven primarily by an increase in the number of unemployed women, it noted.
The OECD unemployment rate for women climbed by 0.7 percentage points from a month earlier to 5.3% in March, while the rate for men was broadly stable.
In March 2024, the OECD unemployment rates were stable among youth (aged 15 to 24) at 10.9% in the month.
