ANKARA (AA) - Olympiacos Piraeus forward Sasha Vezenkov has been named the 2022-23 Turkish Airlines EuroLeague most valuable player (MVP).
Vezenkov became the top scorer of the competition with 17.2 points per game while ranking second in rebounds with 6.8 per game.
He finished the league with an average performance index rating (PIR) of 21.2 to become the second player with 21.0 PIR or higher, after NBA star Luka Doncic in the 2017-18 season.
PIR is a basketball mathematical statistical formula that includes contributions of the players including points, rebounds and assists that is used by the EuroLeague, which basically defines the efficiency of the players.
Vezenkov bagged two MVP of the Month awards in November 2022 and February 2023.
The 27-year-old Bulgarian international became the third Olympiacos player to be voted MVP, after Milos Teodosic in 2010 and Vassilis Spanoulis in 2013.
