Jelena Ostapenko on Monday shocked Iga Swiatek at a 2023 US Open Round 4 match.
The Latvian player eliminated the world no. 1 with 3-6, 6-3 and 6-1 sets.
"There were some key moments in the second set. When I won it, especially the first game in the third set when I broke her, I felt like it's going more my way," said Ostapenko.
"I put her under pressure, of course, because I was hitting quite many winners, and she didn't like the power I was giving her because she needed some time to play," she added.
Defending US Open champion Swiatek was shocked by Ostapenko's play in the second and third set, despite winning the opening set.
"I don't really know what happened with my game," said the Polish star about the surprise result. "I felt no control suddenly. I just have to watch and see, because I didn't really know why I started making so many mistakes."
In the quarterfinals, Ostapenko, 26, will take on no. 6 seed Coco Gauff, who eliminated Caroline Wozniacki in round 4.
