ANTALYA, Türkiye (AA) - A man in Türkiye's southern Antalya province had a solitaire ring made from a meteorite he found in an empty field as a special gift for his wife on their 20th wedding anniversary.
Aycan Cagdas Sikar, who works in the service sector, believed the stone he found in a vacant lot in central Kayseri province was unique, sending it to the Department of Geological Engineering at the Middle East Technical University (METU) for analysis.
The analysis at METU confirmed that the stone was indeed a meteorite.
Wanting to give his wife Cicek a special gift on their 20th wedding anniversary, Sikar asked his designer friend, Cagri Yilmaz, to create a ring from the meteorite.
Yılmaz accepted the request and designed a solitaire ring made from the meteorite.
Sikar told Anadolu that he gave his wife a beautiful and unique gift.
"I wanted to celebrate our 20th year in an unforgettable way. The ring turned out to be aesthetically unique," Sikar said.
Designer Yilmaz, for his part, said that it was his first time crafting a ring from a meteorite.
Yılmaz, who has been working with diamonds for years, said: "It was quite difficult to cut; there were challenging parts, but it was worth the effort. We created a one-of-a-kind ring."
