BUDAPEST (AA) - Hungary’s security forces blocked more than 600 irregular migrants from entering the country since Aug. 6, the country's police said on Monday.
In a statement, the police said as many as 616 migrants were turned away at the border.
It said that some 1,039 migrants were also prevented from entering the country between July 26 and Aug. 1, and 1,403 others between Aug. 2 and 8.
Hungary has set up a barbed-wire fence at its borders with Serbia and Croatia in an attempt to stop irregular migrants, declaring a state of emergency in border areas and increasing penalties for illegal crossings.
