Pakistan confirms 3rd mpox case

51-year-old traveler showed mpox symptoms upon returning from abroad, says regional public health director

ISTANBUL (AA) - Pakistan on Saturday confirmed its third case of mpox infection, with the latest case reported in the northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, state-run media reported.

Irshad Roghani, director of public health for the province, said that the patient, a 51-year-old traveler was diagnosed with mpox symptoms at the airport in Peshawar, the provincial capital, according to Radio Pakistan.

This marks the third confirmed case of mpox in the country this year.

Pakistan has recorded a total of 12 mpox cases and one death since 2022.

The World Health Organization (WHO) recently declared the global mpox situation a "public health emergency of international concern" on Aug. 14.
