ISTANBUL (AA) - Pakistan on Sunday lodged a “strong” protest with German authorities for their “failure” to protect its consular mission from an attack in Frankfurt.
In a statement, Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry said a “gang of extremists” attacked its diplomatic mission in the German city on Saturday.
“The security of Pakistan's consulate in Frankfurt was breached, endangering the lives of its consular staff,” the ministry said.
“We are conveying our strong protest to the German government,” it added.
Calling on the German authorities to take “immediate measures to fulfil its responsibilities” to ensure the security of the diplomatic missions and staff of Pakistan in the European nation, the ministry said: “We also urge the German authorities to take immediate measures to arrest and prosecute those involved in yesterday's incident and hold to account those responsible for the lapses in security.”
According to Pakistani media, some “Afghan nationals” had pelted stones at the Pakistani consulate on Saturday.
