Expansion of conflict outside Gaza 'will have repercussions,' says Hamas leader

GAZA CITY, Palestine (AA) – The Palestinian resistance factions and Lebanon’s Hezbollah on Friday condemned the attacks launched by the United States and United Kingdom on Yemen.

Hamas senior spokesman Sami Abu Zuhri said in a statement: “The American-British aggression against the Yemeni army’s areas for standing by Gaza is an aggression and a provocation to the entire nation.”

The aggression indicates an expansion of the conflict outside Gaza, the official said, stressing that “this will have repercussions.”

The Islamic Jihad movement said in a separate statement: “This aggression comes in the context of the military umbrella provided by Western colonial countries to their military barracks in Palestine.”

“This confirms that the American administration is the one conducting the war of genocide against the Palestinian people in Gaza,” it added.

Islamic Jihad called on the Arab and Islamic nations to take note of the aggression against Yemen that rose in defense of Gaza and the holy sites of Muslims in Palestine.

The Lebanese group Hezbollah said it “strongly condemns the blatant American-British aggression against brotherly Yemen.”

“The American aggression confirms once again that America is a full partner in the tragedies and massacres committed by the Zionist enemy in Gaza and the region,” the group added.

The Al-Masirah TV channel, which is affiliated with the Houthi group, announced late Thursday that the Yemeni capital Sanaa has been subjected to "American aggression."

Separately, the Saba news agency, which is also affiliated with the Houthis, reported that US and UK aircraft carried out airstrikes on Sanaa and Al Hudaydah, Sa’ada and Dhamar governorates.

The attack comes hours after the leader of Yemen’s Houthi group, Abdul-Malik al-Houthi, warned that anyone risking military action against his country would "pay the price," emphasizing that any American aggression "will never go unanswered.”

US President Joe Biden said he ordered the strikes "in direct response to unprecedented Houthi attacks against international maritime vessels in the Red Sea."
