Palestinian Rima Hassan on ballot for European Parliament elections

Hassan's origins trace back to Neirab Refugee Camp in Syria, where she was born before emigrating to France in early 2000s

PARIS (AA) - Palestinian Rima Hassan, hailing from Syria, has thrown her hat into the ring for the upcoming European Parliament elections, marking a significant milestone in her journey from a refugee camp to the political arena.

Hassan's candidacy was announced by the French opposition Unsubmissive France Party (LFI), following the approval of the candidate list on March 15. The crucial step was taken through an online voting process involving party members.

Placed seventh on the list of candidates, Hassan's confirmation paves the way for her parliamentary bid during EP elections from June 6-9.

Her origins trace back to the Neirab Refugee Camp in Syria, where she was born before emigrating to France in the early 2000s.

Despite the challenges she faced as a refugee, Hassan pursued higher education and obtained a law degree.

In 2019, Hassan demonstrated her commitment to addressing refugee issues by founding the Refugee Camps Observatory, highlighting her dedication to advocating for marginalized communities.
