Part III of indictment in Akinci Jet Base coup bid case

This is the detailed indictment prepared on the incidents at Akinci Main Jet Base during FETO's coup attempt in July 2016

ANKARA (AA) - Ankara Public Prosecutor’s Office on Friday filed an indictment over the incidents at Turkey's 4th Akinci Main Jet Base during the defeated coup initiated by Fetullah Terrorist Organization (FETO) in July 2016.

Akinci -- which was renamed Murted after the attempted coup -- located outside Turkey's capital Ankara, was used as a base by some pro-coup soldiers, and some of the jets which took off from the base that night bombed several places in the capital, including the parliament building. Loyal Turkish military officers were also held hostage at the base.

Below is part III of the indictment:

11.02 p.m. (2002GMT)

Prime Minister Binali Yildirim comes on air on NTV channel to say "some people in the military have taken an illegal action outside the chain of command."

He went on to say: "The government, which has been elected by the people, remains in charge. Those who are attempting this will pay the heaviest price."

11.03 p.m. (2003GMT)

Chief of General Staff Hulusi Akar, who opposed the coup and strongly rejected the offer to lead the putsch is taken out of the Turkish General Staff through the 1-A door by three pro-coup soldiers from the Special Forces Command along with Mehmet Disli, Firat Alakus, Abdullah Erdogan, Onur Ozdemir, Mehmet Aytas and Halit Kazanci.

Akar, accompanied by Mehmet Disli and four members of the Special Forces Command, get on a helicopter piloted by Halil Gul and are flown to the Akinci Airbase.

11.04 p.m. (2004GMT)

Coup plotter Mehmet Partigoc calls Ismail Keskin, adjutant of Akin Ozturk.

Partigoc tells Ozturk to go to Akinci Airbase, where he said the interned commanders would be brought and the coup attempt would be followed.

11.05 p.m. (2005GMT)

Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office launches investigation into coup attempt.

11.09 p.m. (2009GMT)

Eskisehir Combined Air Operations Centre orders Akinci 4th Main Jet Base Command and Diyarbakir’s 8th Main Jet Base Command to ask for the return of jets which took off without permission.

Col. Ahmet Ozcetin from Akinci 4th Main Jet Base Command says "air mission will continue."

11.18 p.m. (2018GMT)

Suspects Mustafa Azimetli and Ekrem Aydogdu flying F-16s use laser-guided system to target the Turkish National Police Aviation Department.

Suspect Ertan Koral accompanied by Mehmet Cetin Kaplan drops a GBU-10 bomb, which martyrs seven people and wounds five others. Financial loss is 40 million Turkish liras ($11 million).

11.30 p.m. (2030GMT)

A military cargo aircraft takes off from Kayseri province to bring 250 soldiers from the Cardak Airport in Denizli province to the capital Ankara.

The Aircraft lands at Malatya Erhac Airport after it is not granted permission at Cardak Airport following directives from the Eskisehir Combined Air Operations Centre.

11.37 p.m. (2037GMT)

Deputy chief of Turkish General Staff Yasar Guler is forced by coup soldiers, including Cemil Turhan and two other members of the Special Forces Command to get on a helicopter; with his hands and arms tied, Guler is taken to the Akinci Airbase.

11.44 p.m. (2044GMT)

Coup plotters issue an order on "Peace at Home" WhatsApp group: "Intervention is needed at Istanbul Moda Sea Club; there are generals to be interned."

11.47 p.m. (2047GMT)

The tanker aircraft that took off from Incirlik Airbase is found around Afyonkarahisar province.

11.50 p.m. (2050GMT)

Eskisehir Combined Air Operations Centre is unable to contact the Air Force Operations Centre.

Meanwhile, a helicopter lands at Istanbul Moda Sea Club to capture anti-coup soldiers.

Lt. Gen. Mehmet Sanver tells Col. Ismail Uner from Eskisehir Combined Air Operations Centre: "Air Force Operations Centre is illegal and none of its orders should be followed."

Just 33 seconds after midnight, suspect Huseyin Turk accompanied by pilot Ugur Uzunoglu drop a bomb from their F-16 jet at Police Special Forces department in Golbasi district of Ankara, martyring 44 people and wounding 36 others. Financial loss is 6,341,879 Turkish liras.

Helicopters open fire at the National Intelligence Service (MIT) building in Ankara.

12.11 a.m.

Lt. Gen. Mehmet Sanver shares list of orders with Col. Ismail Uner from Eskisehir Combined Air Operations Centre to be announced at all bases in the country. Orders include:

1- Air Force Operations Centre has given illegal instructions.

2 - None of the instructions of Air Force Operations Centre should be obeyed.

3 - Commander of the Turkish Air Forces Org. Abidin Unal will continue to give written orders to the air force through Eskisehir Combined Air Operations Centre.

4 - No aircraft can take off without the order of the commander of the Turkish Air Forces.

5 - Legal action will be taken against those who disobey the orders.

Pro-coup soldiers force news anchor to read their declaration on state television TRT.

Six F-16s from Diyarbakir, four other F-16s from Akinci base, two more F-16s from Balikesir, two tanker aircraft from Incirlik and one reconnaissance aircraft from Akinci base are determined to be airborne.

VIP Flight Case belonging to the Air Force Command which flew from Istanbul's Ataturk Airport lands at Istanbul's Sabiha Gokcen Airport.

F-16s under control of suspects Oguz Alper Emrah and Ilker Hazinedar takes off from Akinci base in pursuit of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan's aircraft.

The jets on their way back land at Akinci at 1.38 a.m. (2238GMT) by flying low over Ankara.

Coup plotters give order on "Peace at home" Whatsapp group: "Intervene harshly with arms and tanks against crowds and police who stand against soldiers."

A military cargo plane in control of suspect Burhan Yaranc takes off from Kayseri’s 12th Air Transportation Main Base Command to bring 160 commandos and two cobra helicopters from Sirnak to Ankara.

Sirnak airport is shut down and lights turned off following instructions from the Eskisehir United Air Operation Center (BHMM). The suspects return to Kayseri.

Coup plotters give another order on "Peace at Home" Whatsapp group: "Fellows, everything is going as planned but the TV's must be shut."

Two F-16s take off from Akinci base without permission.

Two F-16s inform they are ready for take off in Erzurum.

Coup plotters give another order on "Peace at Home" Whatsapp group: "Fellows, thankfully, many targets in Ankara and Istanbul have been under control. Our declaration has been read at TRT, keep going, the order is to respond harshly to anyone who stands against our operation."

Intervention is made on Dalaman Airport's security cameras; one of the cameras is fixed facing iron poles on the tower.

A black minibus with its beacon lamp on is seen heading towards an ATA plane, often used by the president of Turkey, at the parking space of Dalaman Airport, in Mugla province.

Coup plotters issue coup declaration on General Staff's official website.

12.54 a.m. (2154GMT)

Suspects Adem Kirci and Mustafa Konur take off from Akinci Base with F-16s loaded with ammunitions and carry out "air interception mission". The planes fly low over Ankara and return to base at 1.58 a.m. (2258GMT).

Brig. Gen. Kemal Mutlum, who directed the coup attempt from the Air Forces Operation Center and Col. Veysel Kavak, who operated the coup attempt from the headquarters of Air Forces Command, speak to each other by a recordable telephone. "Col. Ismail Uner took control of Eskisehir BHHM, and things are not going the way we want, nothing left in our hands except Akinci base," it was said in the conversation.

Mutlum asked: "Is there anything else anywhere?" Kavak answered: "There is no other change, we are going for the thing, my commander,"

Later, it came to be known that "the thing" they were referring to was about bombing targets.

A fire truck goes towards the ATA plane at the Dalaman Airport.

12.56 a.m. (2156GMT)

Mehmet Yurdakul and Ilhami Aygul use their F-16s to drop two bombs on the Ankara Police Headquarters, martyring two people and injuring 39 others. Damage cost is estimated at 7,349,500 Turkish liras.

The black minibus, which was seen approaching the ATA plane at Dalaman Airport, is seen leaving.

12.59 a.m. (2159GMT)

A tower officer at Cardak Airport in Denizli calls Col. Ismail Uner, who was in Eskisehir, and informs him that 11th Brigade Commanders personnel can be seen heading towards the airfield, planning to leave in transport planes coming from Kayseri.

Uner orders officers to block their path so that no airplane could land or take off; instruction is given to turn off lights at the airport and to leave the tower.
