Philadelphia 76ers All-Star center and reigning NBA MVP (Most Valuable Player) Joel Embiid will undergo knee surgery this week and the East starter could miss the 2024 NBA All-Star Game.
ESPN NBA insider Adrian Wojnarowski said on X on Sunday that Embiid will "undergo a procedure this week to repair a left meniscus injury."
"A recovery timeline is expected after procedure, but expectation is that he will miss an extended period of time," Wojnarowski added.
Embiid hurt his left knee in last week's loss to the Golden State Warriors.
The 29-year-old, who was among the Eastern Conference starters, is likely to miss the 73rd All-Star Game in Indianapolis on Feb. 18.
This season Embiid is the NBA's leading scorer, averaging 35.3 points per game.
