ISTANBUL (AA) - The Philippines on Friday won their first gold medal in men's basketball at the Asian Games in over six decades.
The Philippine basketball team, commonly known as Gilas Pilipinas, defeated Jordan 70-60 in Hangzhou, China to clinch a historic victory.
The Philippines last claimed an Asian Games gold medal in 1962 when they defeated China to secure their fourth consecutive continental championship, Philippine broadcaster GMA News reported.
The win ended a 61-year gold medal drought in men's basketball for the Philippines at the Asian Games, with their previous best – the fourth place – recorded in 2002.
