SAKARYA, Türkiye (AA) - Ten people were killed and 59 injured on Thursday in a traffic pileup involving seven vehicles in Türkiye’s Marmara region.
Eight of the 59 wounded are in critical condition from the accident, which took place in the Sakarya section of the Northern Marmara Highway, said Health Minister Fahrettin Koca in a statement.
The pile-up saw three buses, a truck and other vehicles colliding in the Dagdibi area, which sits along the highway to Istanbul. The reason for the multi-vehicle collision remains unknown.
Gendarmerie crews, ambulances, fire brigades, search and rescue teams, and highway personnel were dispatched to the scene.
The flow of traffic towards Istanbul was halted.
Teams continue to remove vehicles from the road in the region, where dense fog is an issue.
Sakarya prosecutors are also on the scene investigating the accident.
