ANKARA (AA) – A PKK terrorist surrendered to Turkish security forces after persuasion efforts, the Turkish interior minister said on Thursday.
As the protest outside the People’s Democratic Party (HDP) headquarters in Diyarbakir province has entered its day 1,462, another PKK member met with his mother after surrendering to Turkish security forces, Ali Yerlikaya said on his social media account.
Some 46 members of the terrorist organization have been persuaded to surrender so far as a result of the protests carried out by Diyarbakir mothers, Yerlikaya added.
The protest has been going on since 2019 outside the office of the People’s Democratic Party (HDP) in Diyarbakir province.
Since Sept. 3, 2019, the protesting families have been camping outside regional offices of the HDP, a party the Turkish government says has links to the PKK.
In its more than 35-year terror campaign against Türkiye, the PKK – listed as a terrorist organization by Türkiye, the US, and the EU – has been responsible for the deaths of at least 40,000 people, including women, children, and infants.
