WARSAW (AA) - Poland’s health minister resigned Tuesday following an outcry after he disclosed the sensitive medical data of a doctor.
Speaking at a news conference, Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki announced that Adam Niedzielski was stepping down and he had accepted his resignation.
In a social media post last week, Niedzielski detailed the type of drugs a doctor, Piotr Pisula, prescribed to himself after the physician spoke about problems issuing prescriptions for certain painkillers due to Health Ministry regulations.
Morawiecki said everyone must be particularly sensitive to any mistakes during the election campaign period, as they are preparing for elections that will take place on Oct. 15.
Niedzielski will be replaced by Katarzyna Sojka, a lawmaker and doctor.
Following the incident, Poland's Supreme Medical Chamber told Morawiecki that doctors had lost confidence in Niedzielski.
