LAGOS, Nigeria (AA) - At least 10 miners have been confirmed dead and 12 others injured in an attack by armed bandits on a mining site in northwest Nigeria's Kaduna state, police said on Sunday.
“I can confirm that a total of 10 persons working at a minefield in Mahanga village of Birnin Gwari 10. Nine persons died yesterday when the attack occurred while 13 were admitted into hospital for serious gunshot injuries,” Kaduna police commissioner Austin Iwar told Anadolu Agency by phone.
“One of those critically injured succumbed to his injuries today and that brought the death toll to 10,” Iwar added, saying police have launched investigations into the incident.
The police official said no arrest has been made but “we are working on clues suggested by locals in the area and very soon we will brief the public on the outcome of the investigations.”
