ISTANBUL (AA) - Mason Greenwood from Manchester United in the English Premier League, had all charges dropped against him Thursday, one year after his arrest on sexual assault charges.
"Given the significant media coverage of this case, it is only fair that we share the news that the 21-year-old man, who had been arrested and charged in connection with an investigation opened in January 2022, no longer faces criminal proceedings in relation to this," Greater Manchester Police said in a statement.
"Despite the media and public’s interest in this case, we have decided not to comment on it in any further detail," it added.
Greenwood was arrested last year on suspicion of rape and assault after police were notified of online social media images and videos posted by a woman who reported physical violence.
He was later released on bail following his arrest and charges that included threatening to kill a woman.
Manchester United suspended the right-winger until further notice, while video game developer EA Sports removed Greenwood from FIFA products.
Greenwood's most recent appearance was against West Ham United in a Premier League match in January 2022.
He had 35 goals and 12 assists in 129 matches for the Red Devils.
