ATHENS (AA) – A Chinese dissident artist was welcomed in the Polish capital late on Monday despite protests from Beijing.

Badiucao, who adopted the pen-name to protect his identity, will host an exhibition at Warsaw's Centre for Contemporary Art on Friday.

Piotr Bernatowic, director of the art center, told public broadcaster Polskie Radio, that he received a high-ranking official from China’s Embassy, who demanded that the exhibition be called off.

He said he refused to do so, saying such a move would amount to preventive censorship.

Badiucao is a Chinese political cartoonist, artist and rights activist based in Australia.
