ATHENS (AA) – Pope Francis on Wednesday denounced the arms industry for “profiting from death.”
Addressing crowds at the Vatican for his Wednesday General Audience, the pontiff said, “Today the investments that yield the most income are the factories of weapons.”
“Profiting from death is terrible,” he added, according to Vatican News.
Urging Catholics not to forget to pray for peace and victims of war, he reiterated: “War is always a defeat.”
He then called for prayers particularly for those who are suffering from the ongoing wars in Ukraine and Palestine.
Francis also highlighted the severe conditions of the Rohingya refugees in Myanmar, which faces a civil war.
"Let's ask for peace, let's ask for true peace for these peoples and for the whole world,” he added.
