HAMILTON, Canada (AA) - Prime Minister Justin Trudeau expressed his outrage Wednesday on reports that over 100 Jewish institutions across Canada received emails with bomb threat.
"I’m disgusted at reports that more than 100 Jewish institutions across Canada were targeted by threats today. This is blatant antisemitism," Trudeau wrote on X.
He emphasized that the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) is actively involved in the investigation, and said: "We’re working with them (RCMP) to keep Jewish Canadians safe."
Local media reported over 100 synagogues and Jewish organizations across Canada received emails with bomb threats.
The RCMP announced launching of a Canada-wide investigation regarding the incidents.
The National Council of Canadian Muslims (NCCM) also condemned the threats in a separate post on X.
"This is deeply disturbing and unacceptable. Whoever did this should face the harshest possible criminal penalties," said the organization.
"There is no room for hate anywhere in Canada or beyond," it added.
A recent Survey of Online Harms in Canada 2024, conducted by public policy and leadership think-tank The Dais, revealed on Tuesday that the Israel-Palestine conflict stands as the predominant topic of online hate speech in Canada this year.
