BERLIN (AA) - An investigation is continuing into the death of a 43-year-old Turkish citizen, following the use of a stun gun on him by German police, officials said on Thursday.
Umit Dursun died on Monday night in the southern German city of Nuremberg, after a police officer used his Taser apparently to stop him from ending his life at his house, and later emergency medical responders tried to sedate him with a tranquilizer.
The police’s use of tasers has long been criticized by human rights organizations, as they can stop the heart and lead to death.
The prosecutor’s office told Merkur, a local daily, the autopsy could not determine the cause of his death and now they were waiting for toxicology reports, as Dursun had interrupted his drug addiction treatment.
