MOSCOW (AA) - Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Wednesday that the idea of creating a gas hub in Türkiye could lead to the establishment of an electronic trading platform for selling energy resources to Europe.

"Here we are talking primarily about the creation of an electronic platform for gas trade to the European continent. Everyone is interested in this, including our Turkish friends and partners, and everyone who wants to receive our resources on the European continent," said Putin.

Russia delivers gas to Türkiye via two gas pipelines, the TurkStream and Blue Stream, and both work efficiently, he said.

"We have an idea to expand these opportunities. At this stage, we are talking about creating an electronic trading platform. There are no problems here," he said.

The Russian president said that Azerbaijan has also showed interest in taking part in the venture.

Türkiye has a strategic geographical position, as it is located at the crossroads of routes from energy supplier countries. In addition to Russia, they include Azerbaijan, Algeria, Niger, and others.

Putin proposed the idea of a gas hub in Türkiye about a year ago, in October 2022, and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has expressed considerable interest in the idea.
