ISTANBUL (AA) - Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Monday that his country’s work to increase its naval power will continue.
“In the coming years, as part of the state armament program, three more Borei-A class strategic missile carriers should be launched from the stocks of the legendary Sevmash (shipbuilding enterprise) and transferred to the Navy,” Putin said at a ceremony in the port city of Severodvinsk.
Putin traveled to Severodvinsk in the country’s northern Arkhangelsk region to take part in the commissioning ceremony of the Emperor Alexander III and Krasnoyarsk nuclear submarines.
Expressing that five Yasen-M class submarines are being built at the same time, including the Arkhangelsk nuclear-powered cruiser, he said that Russia will implement all its plans for the construction of submarines and ships.
“We will quantitatively strengthen the combat readiness of the Russian Navy, our naval power in the Arctic, the Far East, the Black Sea, the Baltic Sea, and the Caspian Sea - the most important strategic areas of the world's oceans,” the Russian president added.
Putin also said that they are equipping the Russian Navy with “the most modern equipment and weapons,” adding that the country is also increasing its production.
