MOSCOW (AA) - Russian President Vladimir Putin on Tuesday began and personally supervised the training of Russian nuclear forces, according to a statement by the Kremlin.

Putin said that Russia reiterates its position on the use of nuclear weapons as an extreme, exceptional measure to ensure the security of the country.

"At the same time, we are well aware that it is the nuclear triad that continues to be a reliable guarantor of our country's sovereignty and security, allows us to solve the tasks of strategic deterrence, as well as maintain nuclear parity and the balance of power in the world as objective factors of global stability," he said. The Russian nuclear triad consists of aircraft, submarines, and intercontinental ballistic missiles.

The Russian leader noted that in conditions of tense geo[political situation, nuclear forces should be on alert and in combat readiness.

He emphasized that in 2024 the share of modern weapons in service of the Russian army increased to 94%.

"All this is necessary for the effective protection of Russia and our citizens," he said.

Ballistic and cruise missiles were launched from the ground, sea and air carriers during the training.
