ANKARA (AA) – On day one of the 2022 World Cup hosted in the Gulf state of Qatar, Qatar’s Embassy in Türkiye on Sunday gave a FIFA World Cup opening reception in the Turkish capital Ankara.
Hosted by Qatari Ambassador Sheikh Mohamed bin Nasser bin Jassim Al-Thani, the reception at the JW Mariott Hotel started at 1400GMT.
After a small dance show and catering service, the reception continued with a viewing of the Group A match between Qatar and Ecuador, which is also the opening game of the tournament.
Under a bilateral security cooperation agreement, Ankara deployed more than 3,000 police officers and security personnel to provide security for the World Cup alongside their Qatari counterparts.
