ANKARA (AA) - France’s Fabio Quartararo won his first MotoGP World Championship on Sunday with a fourth spot finish in the Italian Grand Prix.
Spanish rider Marc Marquez for the Repsol Honda Team finished first in the race but Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP rider Quartararo was crowned the champion after the race with 267 points.
Spaniard Pol Espargaro of the Repsol Honda Team finished second with 4.859 seconds behind the leader and Italian Enea Bastianini from Avintia Esponsorama finished third 12.013 seconds behind.
Claiming the championship with two more races to go, Quartararo became the first French MotoGP champion.
Quartararo said he is living the dream right now.
"It feels good to have my family with me, and we will enjoy tonight and until the end of the season,” he added.
The next race in Moto GP, the Portuguese Grand Prix, will be held on Nov. 7.
