RIYADH (AA) – The “Red Wave 1” naval exercises concluded Thursday in Saudi territorial waters in the Red Sea, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) has reported.
The five-day maneuvers included naval units from Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Egypt, Sudan, Djibouti, Yemen and Somalia.
The SPA quoted exercise director Ali al-Ghanemi as saying that the drills were aimed at “consolidating maritime security in the Red Sea”.
Last month, Saudi Arabia and the six other participant states formally established a coalition with the stated aim of promoting political, economic and security cooperation.
