WASHINGTON (AA) - US presidential candidate Nikki Haley has requested Secret Service protection due to an increase in threats she has received as Donald Trump's main opponent for the 2024 Republican nomination, a report said Monday.
“We’ve had multiple issues,” Haley was quoted as saying by The Wall Street Journal. “It’s not going to stop me from doing what I need to do.”
A formal request has been made to federal authorities for additional protection for Haley, and her campaign is considering the potential impact of heightened security on her campaign itinerary and travel plans, according to the report.
Former President Donald Trump won the New Hampshire Republican primary last month, defeating Haley, a former governor of South Carolina.
Despite the results, Haley vowed to keep campaigning before her home state of South Carolina hosts its first GOP primary on Feb. 24.
"This race is far from over. There are dozens of states left to go, and the next one is my sweet state of South Carolina," she told the crowd.
