ANKARA (AA) - Roma's Dutch midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum broke his leg during Sunday's training, the Italian football club said.
"Following an injury sustained during training this afternoon, Georginio Wijnaldum subsequently underwent medical tests that confirmed the presence of a fracture to the tibia in his right leg," Roma said on Twitter.
The 31-year-old "will undergo further assessments in the coming days," the club added.
Earlier August, Wijnaldum joined Roma from Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) for a season-long loan.
The Dutch international was a Liverpool midfielder from 2016-2021, and helped the English club win the 2019 UEFA Champions League and 2020 Premier League titles.
Last season, as a PSG member, Wijnaldum won the French Ligue 1 title.
