ANKARA (AA) - British driver in the Formula 1 George Russell will join Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 team next season, the team announced on Tuesday.
"Following Valtteri Bottas’ departure to Alfa Romeo Racing, George Russell will be team-mate to Lewis Hamilton from 2022," Mercedes said in a statement.
"It’s official. Next year, I’ll be a Mercedes F1 driver. This is a special day for me and I want to say a huge thank you to Williams Racing, Mercedes AMG F1 and everyone who has supported me in getting to where I am today. I couldn’t have done it without every single one of you," Russell said on Twitter.
Mercedes' Finnish driver Bottas will move to Alfa Romeo next season, the Formula 1 team had said on Monday.
Williams previously signed 23-year-old Russell in 2019 when he made his Formula 1 debut.
In the rain-drenched Belgian Grand Prix in August, Russell took the second spot to make his maiden podium appearance in F1.
He has entered 51 Grands Prix so far.
