ISTANBUL (AA) - Russia claimed on Monday that it took control of another village in Ukraine’s eastern Donetsk region.
A statement by the Defense Ministry said its forces captured the village of Yelyzavetivka, located about 11 kilometers (6.8 miles) south of the city of Kurakhove, a key stronghold of Ukrainian forces in Donetsk that houses a thermal power plant.
Russia has frequently reported gains in recent months as it continues its offensive in Donetsk, with the area around Pokrovsk and Kurakhove seeing heightened activity.
Ukrainian authorities have not yet commented on Russia’s claim, and independent verification of the claim is difficult due to the ongoing war.
