ISTANBUL (AA) - Russia on Tuesday claimed that it has taken control of the village of Nevelske in Ukraine’s eastern Donetsk region.
A statement by the Russian Defense Ministry claimed that while capturing Nevelske, its units in the area also took “more advantageous lines and positions.”
Ukrainian authorities have not yet commented on the claim.
Russian forces have been advancing in eastern Ukraine over the past weeks, notably taking control of the city of Avdiivka on Feb. 17 following a withdrawal to “avoid encirclement.”
Since then, Ukraine has also withdrawn from the settlements of Lastochkyne, Severne, and Stepove in the Donetsk region.
Ukrainian authorities noted the lack of ammunition in the country's military as a factor affecting the situation on the frontline.
