ISTANBUL (AA) - Russia on Sunday claimed that Ukraine fired missiles at the Chonhar bridge that connects the Kherson region to the Crimean Peninsula, which Moscow illegally annexed in 2014.
“Kyiv terrorists fired NATO Storm Shadow missiles at the Chonhar bridge and the village of Chonhar. The bridge was damaged by a rocket,” Vladimir Saldo, the Russian-installed head of Ukraine’s Kherson region, said in a statement on Telegram.
Saldo further said that transport communication with Crimea continues to work through roads near Chaplynka and Armiansk.
In a separate statement, Sergey Aksyonov, the Russian-installed head of Crimea, claimed on Telegram that some missiles were shot down by air defense systems and that there were no casualties.
Ukrainian authorities have not yet commented on the claim, which could not be independently verified due to the ongoing war.
