MOSCOW (AA) - The Second International Winter Sports Games, "Children of Asia," started Saturday in the Russian Siberian city of Kemerovo.
Young athletes from 11 countries will compete in 12 disciplines venues located in four places in the Asian part of Russia -- Kemerovo, Novokuznetsk, Mezhdurechensk and the Tashtagolsky district of Kemerovo region.
The first Children of Asia Games took place in 1996 in the Russian region of Yakutia to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the modern Olympic movement.
In 2016, the Games committee decided to hold summer and winter Children of Asia Games -- the first winter edition took place in 2019 in Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk.
Many winners of the Children of Asia Sports Games later became world and Olympic champions.
The emblem of the competition consists of the letter A, which stands for Asia, in a yellow circle, which symbolizes the sun that rises in the east, completed by blue rising lines, symbolizing the passage from victories at small sports contests to victories in the global events and wavy horizontal lines -- graphic interpretation of the Olympic motto -- Swifter, Higher, Stronger.
