ANKARA (AA) – Russia remains committed to finding a solution to the Syria situation, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said on Thursday, rejecting the impression that Moscow has “lost interest” due to the Ukraine war.
In a meeting with UN Special Envoy for Syria Geir Pedersen in Moscow, Lavrov said Western countries have recently made false claims that “Russia has lost interest in the Syrian settlement” because of its military engagement in Ukraine.
He dismissed the claims as “absolutely useless,” asserting that “they do not reflect our consistent line of seeking a comprehensive Syrian settlement.”
Lavrov and Pedersen also reaffirmed the importance of continuing dialogue in Syria’s constitutional committee.
The Russian foreign minister stressed the need for conducive conditions to ensure that the committee is able to work effectively without disruptions.
