MOSCOW (AA) - Russia's Federal Penitentiary Service (FSIN) said on Sunday that all hostages taken by prisoners in the southern Rostov-on-Don region were freed after a rescue operation.
Six convicts held in pre-trial detention center No. 1 in the Rostov region had taken two employees of the prison service hostage.
After failed negotiations, police launched an operation during which all six attackers were killed, and hostages liberated unharmed. Several police officers, however, were wounded.
