Russia says Ukraine's security cooperation deal with UK leaves it without chances for peace talks

Russian Embassy in UK says Britain making every effort to prevent G-7, NATO from 'waking up from the anti-Russian frenzy'

MOSCOW (AA) - The Russian Embassy in the UK said Saturday that Ukraine's security cooperation agreement with Britain leaves it without chances for peace talks.

Commenting on a visit by UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak to Kyiv on Friday, during which he signed a 10-year deal on military and security cooperation with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the diplomatic service said results were shameful.

"The results of Prime Minister Rishi Sunak's campaign trip to 'friend Zelenskyy' are deplorable, first of all for Ukraine itself. Putting aside the pretentious proclamations, London continues to view this country as a geopolitical tool aimed against Russia," the embassy said in a statement.

The agreement shows that the Anglo-Saxons see Ukraine as "a bargaining chip in the adventures of Eurasia," it said.

British leadership is making every effort to prevent G-7 countries and NATO from "waking up from the anti-Russian frenzy and realizing the depressing consequences of what is happening for the continent," pushing partners to continue to supply weapons to Ukraine, it said.

Commenting on Sunak's promise to allocate more funds for the purchase and supply of long-range missiles and attack drones to Ukraine, the embassy argued that those steps will not change the overall balance of power and the outcome of the conflict for Ukraine, will only extend the conflict and make it more intense, which means more victims.

"The crocodile tears of the British leadership about the ruined future of Ukraine look hypocritical against this background," it said.

Zelenskyy said Friday that the UK and Ukraine signed an "unprecedented” security cooperation agreement, which provides annual military support for Kyiv and "comprehensive cooperation" to increase its military potential and strengthen the military-industrial complex, state institutions and public systems.
