DHAKA, Bangladesh (AA) - Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov met the Bangladeshi prime minister on Friday, Moscow confirmed.
Lavrov landed in the Bangladeshi capital Dhaka on Thursday for high-level talks with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
The bilateral meeting was held at the Prime Minister's Office on Friday morning, Russia's Foreign Ministry said on X, formerly known as Twitter.
The Russian foreign minister made his maiden visit to Bangladesh since the South Asian country’s independence in 1971, Lavrov said on Thursday.
He made a stop in Dhaka for a single-day visit before proceeding to India for the Group of 20 summit scheduled for Saturday.
Russia was one of the major allies of Bangladesh during its war of independence.
Lavrov met Bangladeshi Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen on Thursday.
