ISTANBUL (AA) - A frigate belonging to Russia’s Pacific Fleet crossed into the Mediterranean Sea through the Suez Canal, the Russian Defense Ministry announced Sunday.
A statement by the ministry said the Marshal Shaposhnikov had docked in the Egyptian port town of Safaga a day earlier, where it replenished its supplies.
“The ship's crew continues to fulfill assigned tasks as part of a long sea voyage,” the statement said, adding the frigate will operate “in accordance with the previously approved fleet combat training plan” while in the Mediterranean.
Last Monday, the ministry said the Marshal Shaposhnikov left the port of Massawa in Eritrea, where it initially arrived on March 29.
The frigate took part in the Doha International Maritime Defense Exhibition and Conference (DIMDEX 2024) in the Qatari capital in March.
