Russian warplanes hit Aleppo's Sadallah al-Jabiri Square amid ongoing clashes

Number of casualties remains unknown, local sources say

ALEPPO, Syria (AA) - Russian warplanes Sunday carried out an airstrike on Sadallah al-Jabiri Square, the central landmark of Aleppo in Syria.

According to local sources, the attack targeted the heart of the city - Sadallah al-Jabiri Square.

The number of casualties from the strike remains unknown at this time, the sources said.

Earlier Sunday, a Russian airstrike on Aleppo University Hospital claimed the lives of 12 people.


- Escalating clashes in Aleppo, Idlib

In the western countryside of Aleppo, northern Syria, clashes erupted on Nov. 27 between Assad regime forces and opposition armed groups.

Between Nov. 27 and 28, opposition forces rapidly advanced from the western outskirts of Aleppo toward the city center, capturing large portions of it by Nov. 30.

The opposition fighters also secured control of the Khan Shaykhun district on Nov. 30, taking over the entire Idlib province.
