ANKARA (AA) – South Korea has launched a “workation” visa allowing foreigners to work from home for up to two years.
The new policy has been implemented from this month and foreigners will be allowed to travel across the country while working remotely, Seoul-based Yonhap News reported.
Workation means when employees combine their work with vacationing and visit a destination while still working.
All foreigners who have a year of work experience in the same industry and proof of annual income of over $66,000, will get the "digital nomad" or "workation," visa along with their families.
The applicant is also required to have medical insurance of around 100 million won (approximately $76,532) to cover his medical treatment and repatriation fee, the agency reported, citing the Justice Ministry.
The visa will be valid for a year, and renewable for up to two years, and can be issued by the country's embassies abroad.
South Korea hopes that the new policy will not only help the local economy but would also promote the country's tourism and culture.
