ANKARA (AA) - South Korea’s Yonhap News Agency launched a new English-language news channel on YouTube on Oct. 1.
The channel Korea Now aims to offer a fresh look into the Korean Peninsula and South Korean popular culture, entertainment and lifestyle, while it posts one or two clips every weekday.
"Celebrating the age of social media, KOREA NOW will continue to develop a variety of formats and stories to meet the demands of 1.8 billion YouTube users," a Yonhap team for new channel said.
Combining video journalism, information and entertainment, Korea Now represents the latest in the news agency's efforts to embrace the technology that is fast reshaping the media landscape.
The Youtube channel drew more than 2,000 new subscribers on Oct. 1 alone, when it started its official service and posted four video clips, including one titled "Will Kim Jong-un win the Nobel Peace Prize?"
"We will actively communicate with the global viewership through breaking news and entertainment content about Korea," the team said.
The launch of the channel came as the world's eyes fell on Korea amid new geopolitical developments, including the three inter-Korean summits and the U.S.-North Korea denuclearization talks, and the phenomenal popularity of K-pop stars, including BTS band.
