Aryna Sabalenka, the world no. 2 in women's tennis, and men's fifth seed Daniil Medvedev advanced Thursday to the third round of the French Open tennis tournament.
Sabalenka from Belarus beat Japanese qualifier Moyuka Uchijima in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2, in a second-round match at Paris' Court Philippe-Chatrier. She will next face Paula Badosa from Spain.
Meanwhile, Elena Rybakina, the fourth seed from Kazakhstan, beat Arantxa Rus from the Netherlands 6-3, 6-4 to reach the women's third round.
Russia's Medvedev won against Miomir Kecmanovic after the Serbian retired because of injury in the second set. Medvedev was leading 6-1, 5-0 after 55 minutes at Court Suzanne-Lenglen.
Medvedev will play either Argentina's Mariano Navone or Czech Republic's Tomas Machac in the third round.
