Gregg Popovich, a longtime San Antonio Spurs head coach, has suffered from a "mild stroke," the NBA franchise confirmed on Wednesday.

In a statement on X, the Spurs said that US national Popovich, a five-time NBA champion with the Western Conference franchise, had a mild stroke on Nov. 2 at the Frost Bank Center, San Antonio's home court.

"Popovich, who has already started a rehabilitation program, is expected to make a full recovery. At this point, a timeline for his return to the sidelines has not been determined," the Spurs added.

The 75-year-old was named the NBA Coach of the Year in 2003, 2012, and 2014.

Popovich won Olympic gold with the USA Basketball's men's team at the Tokyo 2020.

One of the best coaches in NBA history, Popovich was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2023.

This season Popovich's Spurs have a 5-6 win/loss record to be in the 12th spot in the NBA Western Conference standings.

The Spurs will host the Washington Wizards in a Wednesday NBA game.
