RIYADH, Saudi Arabia (AA) – Saudi Arabia on Friday summoned the Danish charge d'affaires over desecration and burning of copies of the Holy Quran in Copenhagen.
The Saudi Foreign Ministry in a statement said it handed the Danish official a protest note “that includes the Kingdom’s demand to stop these disgraceful acts which violate all religious teachings, international laws and norms.”
The statement stressed Riyadh's “rejection of all these acts that fuel interreligious hatred.”
Recent months have seen repeated acts of Quran burning or desecration, or attempts by Islamophobic figures or groups, especially in northern European and Nordic countries, drawing outrage from Muslim countries and the world.
Danske Patrioter burned the Quran on Monday and Tuesday outside the Iranian, Iraqi, Turkish and Egyptian embassies in Copenhagen.
