Schools in northern Morocco suspended due to severe weather, heavy rains

Moroccan General Directorate of Meteorology warns of heavy thunderstorms starting Monday

RABAT, Morocco (AA) - The Moroccan Education Ministry on Monday announced the suspension of classes across various educational institutions in the northern regions due to severe weather conditions.

"Due to the adverse weather conditions and following the warning bulletin issued by the General Directorate of Meteorology, it has been decided to suspend classes on Monday in all public and private educational institutions," the Regional Directorate of National Education in Tangier said in a statement.

The directorate urged students, teachers, and administrative staff to take necessary precautions to ensure their safety.

Meanwhile, Abdelmalek Essaadi University, a public university in the city of Tetouan, also suspended classes on Monday due to the weather conditions, announcing in a statement that classes would resume on Tuesday.

On Sunday, the General Directorate of Meteorology warned of heavy thunderstorms starting Monday, with rainfall expected to reach up to 90 millimeters (3.5 inches) in several regions of the country.

According to the warning bulletin, rainfall amounts are expected to range between 60 and 90 millimeters (2.3 to 3.5 inches) in the northern cities of Tangier, Chefchaouen, Tetouan, Larache, and Al-Hoceima.

Other cities are also expected to experience rainfall, including M’diq and Ouazzane in the north, as well as Taza and Taounate in the east.
