ANKARA (AA) - Serena Williams implied on Tuesday that she was returning to Wimbledon after a one-year absence due to injury.
"SW and SW19. It's a date. 2022 See you there. Let's Go," Williams said in an Instagram post. SW19 is a reference to the postcode of the Centre Court in London, the main court where the tournament is played.
Williams suffered a leg injury in the 2021 Wimbledon during her match against Belarusian player Aliaksandra Sasnovich and had to withdraw from The Championships.
The 40-year-old, who bagged Wimbledon seven times before, is currently one title behind Margaret Court, who has the most women's titles in history with 24.
Founded in 1877, Wimbledon is the only Grand Slam that is still played on grass, which is the game's tradition.
The 135th edition of the tournament will be held from June 27 to July 10.
